WHAT'S IN A STUDENT UNION?
Your elected Representative Committee of the Douglas Students’ Union is made up of twelve representatives selected in an election each year. These representatives each serve a one-year term from May 1 to April 30.
Your representatives are responsible for overseeing the Students’ Union and its operations. They make decisions on behalf of the entire membership and prioritize the activities and operations through out the year.
GOVERNANCE
As members of the Douglas Students’ Union, you have the opportunity and right to participate in decision-making processes through elections, referenda and annual general meetings.
At the national and provincial level, the Douglas Students’ Union represents you at executive and general meeting of the Canadian Federation of Students. Through active participation in these meetings, Douglas College students have a say in setting the campaigns, policies and priorities for the student movement.
The Douglas Students’ Union is registered as a not-for-profit society with the British Columbia Registrar of Societies and is governed by the Societies Act of British Columbia.
Internally, the Douglas Students’ Union is governed by Constitution and Bylaws adopted by members and a Policy Manual containing operational policies adopted either by the Representative Committee or membership.
